INCITING TO MUTINY.
WAIKERIA INMATE CHARGED. FOURTEEN DAYS ON BREAD AND WATER. (Pee United Phess Association.! TB AWAMUTU, August 12. Arising out of the sentence imposed last week upon an inmate of the Waikena Reformatory for assaulting au officer, another inmate, Patrick Collins, was brought before the justices and charged with inciting the other inmates to mutiny. Accused pleaded not guilty. Evidence was gtyeu by three inmates and the chief warder that Collins, on July 27, urged an inmate named Jensen .to smoko and, if reprimanded, to strike the officer, adding: >Ve will look after you.” Next day Jensen assaulted au officer, and Collins kept out of the way. . _ , , In court this morning Collins declaxea that the evidence was an utter fabrication. Ho admitted that he had jokingly suggested smoking, but personally ho did not smoke. Jensen smoked, and was reprimanded. He did not intend Jensen or other inmates present to take his remark seriously. , . , The officials stated that they regarded Collins as a disturbing element and a professional agitator. . , , _ Collina, when further questioned by Constable Doyle, denied having provoked or incited any of the inmates to commit breaches of discipline. The Bench imposed a sentence of 14 days on bread and water.
