MOTOR BUS ON FIRE.
PURSUED BY FIRE ENGINE. AN UNUSUAL SPECTACLE. (Peb United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 12 Tiie unusual spectacle of a fire being convoyed to Iho lire station with the fire brigade in hot pursuit was witnessed this afternoon. A large motor omnibus of 40 passenger capacity had just discharged its passengers at the foot of Queen street when tho benzine tank was fractured through a collision, and while the tank was being emptied someome in the crowd threw down a match, with tho result that the rear of tho vehicle was enveloped in flames. The bus driver at once sot out at full speed up Hobson street to the fire station. Fortunately, the wind was a head one, and the flame streamed for some distance behind tho bus. In the meantime tho alarm had been given, and two engines went to the spot by another route. While one extinguished the burning petrol on the road, the other set off after the omnibus, which loft a track of burning petrol. Tho engine arrived at tho station, and tho brigade’s men dealt with fhc situation. The omnibus, which was insured for £ISOO in the South British Insurance office, was badly damaged, the hood being burned and the upholstery damaged. The rear of tho body was also charred.
