DEFIANT RAILWAYMEN
AN AWARD REJECTED. ORGANISING JOINT ACTION. from Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. SYDNEY, JuJy 50. The leading branches of the Federated Engine-.drivers and Iriremen’s Association have reiterated their defiance of the Arbitration Court, and have decided to instruct the federal president and secretary to refuse to accept the proposed new award and to form a council of action, to discuss what future action shall be taken. It was agreed, if the new claims are refused, that a strike shail be called. It was decided to get into touch with the Labour councils throughout Australia with a view to securing a united front by all organised Labour in pressing their claims. In the Arbitration Court last week Mr Justice Quick rebuked the Federated En-gine-drivers and Firemen’s Association of Australia for threatening to strike while its plaint was before the court. His Honor said it would be inconsistent with the dignity and independence of the court to proceed further. He refrained from making a final award.
