GIRLS’ FRIENDLY SOCIETY HOSTEL.

Tho first annual meeting of the Girls’ Friendly Hostel was held on Saturday afternoon at tho Hostel, Littlebourno, his Lordship, bishop Richards, presided, and there was a largo attendance of church people and others interested. Tho following report was read by tho treasurer, Mr F. H. King: Tho committee has to report that the result of the first year’s experience in tho working of thei Girls’ Friendly Society H tel has proved tho necessity of such an institution, and also that under favourable circumstances there is reason to believe that tho venture will bo self-supporting. Initial difficulties and tho handicap of heavy liabilities for structural alterations and equip ment, combined to make the past year’s experience a trying one. Tho position, however, is now quite hopeful, and once arrears are wiped off there should bo no difficulty in meeting current engagements. Tho sum of £l5O is required to place our finances on a sound footing, ajitf we feel sure that many of our citizens (particularly employers of girl labour), who have not yet subscribed, will recognise the importance of a good home for girls requiirng board and residence under healthy, moral, and domestic surroundings, remembering that wo admit girls of all denominations. Tho Ven-Archdoacon Fitchelt and Messrs Dunkley and Goodloy also spoke in regard to the excellence of tho institution, and votes of thanks were parsed to tho secretary and treasurer, and the members of the House Committee, who were responsible for tho internal working of the hostel. Afternoon tea was then served, and a pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by an inspection of the building by those interested.
