WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Waihemo County Council was held at Palmerston on Saturday, and was' attended by Crs A. Murray (chairman). G. Roes, W. Ritchie, 3?. M'Calhmr, H. O’Neill, and J, O’Connell. The Inspector’s report for the month stated that the maintenance gravelling on the Pai-niersion-Shag Point road (Bushey Riding) had been completed and repairs to Twaddle’s road effected. General surface work had been done on the Good ward Settlement road, Main iwad, etc. (Goodwood Riding). In Meadowbank Riding surface work had been carried out on Sutherland’s road, and arrangements had been made to gravel portion of Hughes’s road by day labour. A start would be made on Monday. He had arranged lon 50yds of metal for Taicri Peak road, at 8s 6d per yard. General surface work had been done in the Blue Mountain Riding, and tho water-tables had been ploughed out on the Switchback road, and maintenance gravel spread whore required. Pipes had been put in at MTjcw’s and the bridge over the river completed. In the Dunback Riding surfacing work had been carried out where required, gravel raked in on the Macraes road and several holes on the Stoneburn road filled in. The Main road from the Grange bridge to Dunback had been graded, and maintenance gravel placed on part of the road at the Grange. General eurface work, and the regrading of M’Leod’a rand at Green Valley had been done. Tho roads and crossings were in fair order. General surface work had been carried out on several roads in Macraes Riding, and a portion of Trotter’s road and Currie’s road had been gravelled. An offer had been made to gravel part of the road between Connolly’s and Currie’s at 5s per yard, the gravel to be taken from Currie’s property. Tho MAniototo engineer bad rung up regarding the Capburn bridge, stating that the estimated cost of tho work was £ls to £SO. The engineer had asked if the council would contribute half-cost. —Report adopted; half-cost of the Capbnrn bridge agreed to. A lengthy circular was received hum the Mines Department, stating that the Roads on Goldfields Estimates were in course of preparation. If the council proposed to apply for provision being made for additional works on roads, or bridges, the Minister would be glad to have each applications forwarded to tho District Engineer, Public Works Department, Dunedin, not later than June 15. Only works of material service to mining would be considered. Applications for subsidies payable out of the Consolidated Fund tor maintenance of roads, or bridges, used principally for mining purposes, micht be made to Inspectors of Mines direct.—Received. Messrs G. Howes snd Co., Dunedin, wrote in connection with their tender for hardwoods which had been accepted, stating that tho timber' would be ready for shipment in three weeks. The firm pointed out that there might by some slight delay in shipment, hut believed” the timber would be in Dunedin about six weeks from date (June 2). —Received.

The District Highways Council, No. 36, Public Works Department, wrote that estimates of works 1o bo undertaken during the current year were in the connse of preparation, and requested that a schedule showing proposed works in the county he forwarded. —lt was decided to reply that an amount estimated at £illO would he required for the Main road through Duuback. Mr Chaa. M'Gregor's application for permission to erect a wire fence on the Main North road for a distance of six yards, to get rid of the gone, was granted during the pleasure of the council. The Danger reported that 1-2 heads of cattle and three horsee hud been impounded. —Received and approved.

Accounts amounting to £6OO were passed for payment. It was resolved that a list of outstanding rates be handed to the solicitor for collection.
