NEW RED FUNNEL LINER.

DESCRIPTION OF THE AOEANGI. A PALATIAL VESSEL. S The Aorangi. which was launched at Govan on Tuesday of last week, is the largest and finest of the Union Company's fleet. She will be employed in the service between how Zealand, Austi'aliu, and Canada. The principal dimensions of the new liner are-—Length, overall, COOft; length, 8.P., 580 ft; breadth, moulded, at upper deck, 72ft, and increased to 74ft at tho promenade deck, and 77ft at the boat deck, and having a depth of 64ft at the boat deck. 'The vessel has been designed for a sea speed of 18 knots; the main propelling machinery will consist of four reversible, single-acting, twocycle, Fairfield Sulzer Diesel engines, each set having six cylinders, HI inches diameter and 39 inches stroke. Four electric venerators driven by Sulzer four-cylinder twocycle Diesel engines are to be installed. Steam for heating and for driving auxiliary machinery is to be provided by two single-' ended cylindrical boilens burning oil fuel with natural draught While principally designed for passengers, this vessel will carry .a considerable amount of cargo, the cargo being worked from eight holds by 16 silent-working winches. A largo pant of the bold space will ha fitted to take refrigerated cargo, frozen meat, butter, cheese, or fruit. The passenger accommodation of tho vessel is very extensive, and there will he spaciousness, elegance, and luxuriousness in ovary direction. This applies not only to the first, but in due sense and degree to ihe second and third classes, all the fittings being of the beat and latest improved typa of their respective classes. On the shelter and promenade decks a considerable number of one and two-berth cabins are fitted with bedsteads complete instead of the ordinary ships’ berth. The first-class dining saloon is a spacious apartment, a feature of which is that the tables am all arranged for small numbers. Tho first-class lounge, finished in Louis XVI stylo, is on the promenade dock, two decks above the dining saloon, and is arranged in small bays and cosy corners; while the writing-room is situated at tho for© -end of the first-class accommodation on the promenade deck, and has been designed specially for the comfort of passengers desiring to pass the time in quiet, either reading or writing. The music-room at the fore end of the promenade deck is a palatial place, having lofty ceilings, and a large dome overhead. The verandah cafe, an elborato place, is arranged on the same deck, abaft tho smoke-room, with suitable weather screen partitions, decorated neatly with trellis work, and fitted with cane chains. A day nursery for tho children has been fitted up with good accommodation for the nurses and children. This room is to ho decorated with interesting pictures and supplied with games and toys. Provision for a well-equipped gymnasium has also been made on the boat deck. Great care has been exercised towards having the beat system' of heating and ventilation to meet the varying conditions between the tropics and colder latitudes, as the vessel passes from tropical heat to severe frost during her voyage from Sydney to Vancouver. Life-eaving appliances have been given great consideration, and boat accommodation is more than ample to provirls for all passengers and crew. Tho boats are fitted with M'La-chlan’s patent davits, the latest improvement in this direction, passengers being able to get into their boats in the event of tho ship having a list. A motor launch also forms part of the equipment.
