SOCIETY FOR THE HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Committee of ‘the Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in the pjunket Booms yesterday morning, ( when there were present —Mosdames M'George (in the chair), Theornin. Sidcy, Coleman, J. c. M ‘George, Galloway. O’Neill, Fraser, Jolm Watson, Cloghorn, M'Kibbin, Jnckson. and Miss Gow and the secretary. Apologies wore received from Mosdames Isaacs, A .Barnett, Dove, Clapporton, D. 'J' Shiind, and Cunninghame. The Hon. Treasurer presented the statement of the society’s finances to date and accounts were passed for payment. Mrs Fraser was elected as a member-of the committee. Mosdames J. A. Johnstone and . W. A. Moore were granted leave of absence from the committee during their absence from Now Zealand. Plunket Nurse Scott was granted 12 months’ leave of absence .from. Juno 30 to visit (he Old Country. • An interesting account was read of the work which is being done in Jerusalem on Plunket lines bv nurses trained in the system at the Mdthercraft Training Centre, London. The Matron of the Kuril ane-Harns Hospital reported us follows for the month of May:— The number of patients in hospital on April 30 was, mothers 3. babies 17, Patients admitted during May was 31 — mothers 9. babies 22. Patients discharged during May was 28—mothers 9. babies 19. Patients in hospital on May 31 was 20— mothers 3, babies 17. In hospital on any one days was 23—bothers 4. babies 19. Of the mothers and babies admitted, one mother and baby came from Whakakeri, Bay of Plenty, one mother and baby came from St. Bathans, and one mother and baby came from Palmerston- South. Six mothers and babies came from Dunedin and suburbs. Of the babies admitted, one came from Otokia, one from Tuturau, one from Mosgiel, one from Invercargill, two from Washdyke. one from Waikouaiti, one from Central Otago, one from Green Island, one, from Palmerston South, and three from Dunedin and suburbs. There wore 15 Plunket n wares and 11 Karitanc nurses in training. Nurse Paterson finished and Nurse Hancox commenced a course of training during the month. Lectures were given at the Karitane Hospital to medical students by Dr K 11. Williams. The Homo Science students attended the hospital one afternoon during the month, when a demonstration of bathing the normal baby was given by tho Karitane nurses. Lectures wore given during the month by Dr Strain. Visitors during the month numbered 193. Gilts weo received from Mosdames Theornin and Sutherland and the Glendining Homo. The Plunkcrt nurses for North ana Centra! districts reported a-s follows for the month ended Mav 31: Babies on the list. 600; babies breast-fed (including partly). 119: new cases for the month (babies only), 25; new cases breastfed (including partlv). 20; vists to Plunket Booms, Stuart street adults 299, children 244; a total of 543. Visits to Plunket Booms. Boslvn —adults 76, children 96: a total of 172. Visits paid to homes, 355; advice given to expectant mothers, 50; bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Taieri Dairy, 5395. The Plunket nurse from South Dunedin district reported as follows for (he month of IMny:

The Plunket. Nurses reported that colds were prevalent during the month among the babies visited.
