It is claimed that the effect of the "Bat More Beef” campaign, instituted by the New Zealand Heat Producers’ Board, is shown in an analysis of the killing returns for the last year of the main abattoirs throughout the dominion, there having been a considerable falling off in the number of sheep and lambs killed for local consumption, and a corrcsnonding increase in the number of cattle. Tho point -stressed by the Meat Producem’ Board is that unless we can find a remunerative cutlet for beef, wc cannot increase our exports of mutton and lamb. Moreover, a great deal cf our country, particularly in the North Island, requires to be constantly grazed by cattle to make it suitable for fattening lambs and sheep.
