Fourteen balloons which wore competing in tlio blordon-Jicimctt ra-co lia%o landed. A French man named Lap or to was trapped in au air vacuum above Chateau Thierry, and remained suspended at a height of 9000 ft tor eight hours. He jettisoned everything moveable in his efforts to reach the upper air current. Finally ho let the gas out, and descended 5000 ft, when the 'balloon drifted across the Channel and landed at Shorcharn. Laporto is at present leading in the race, having covered 200 miles. —Sydney Sun Cable. THE CONTEST DECIDED. LAST YEAR’S WINNER AGAIN SUCCESSFUL. LONDON, Juno 18. (Received June 19, at 9.15 p.m.) Lieutenant Demuyter, the Belgian balloonist, has won the, Gordon-Bennett Cup lor the third year in succession, and the trophy becomes his property.
