REPRESENTATION OF OLD BOYS’ SOCIETY. A deputation consisting of Messrs E. J. Smith and E. Webster, on behalf of the Old Boys' Society, waited on the board to discuss a proposal regarding representation on the board. Mr Smith explained that what they wanted was representation of the Old Boys’ Society, not of the old boys. They recognised that there would be difficulties in the way of ;cpi escalation of the old boys. The society was an incorporated body, and had branches or societies throughout New Zealand affiliated to it. It was proposed to put the names of these on the roil ol the U,d Boys Society. They were not dissatisfied with the work of the board in any way, and their desire for representation was duo to the keen interest taken by the old boys in the welfare of tho school. Mr Webster mentioned that the membership of the society in Dunedin was in the vicinity of 600. Mr Gallaway said he would like to see tho cx-pupils of the Gala’ High School in a position to secure representation on tho board. It was pointed out that there was no society of ex-pupils of the Girls’ High Sehnol, but it was agreed that provision be made for their representation in the event of such a society being formed. The Chairman assured the deputation that the board was quite favourable to tho proposal, and that it was only a inatttcr of arranging details. GRAY RUSSELL SCHOLARSHIP. The question of the regulations covering the Gray Russell scholarship were discussed. The Chairman stated that the regulations provided that the holder of tho scholarship must take the B.A. degree course. Theic had been no candidates for the last year or (wo, and the question arose whether the coarse prescribed included science. After a brief discussion it was decided to continue the course as at present for another year, and tiial every effort be made to make the existence of tho scholarship public, and that in the event of there being no candidate next year steps be taken to obtain Ihe sanction of the court to an enlargement of the trust.
