A proposal that an educational week should be held in Wellington toward the end of the present year in order to increase public interest in education was placed before the Wellington .Education Board to-day by the director of the Wellington Technical College, Mr Howell, who suggested that a conference of educational bodies might be held to consider the matter. After discussion the board agreed to call, a conference. The Council of Education commenced its sitting to-day, Mr J. Caughloy (Director of Education) presiding. Two committees were appointed to deal with the majority of the items on the order paper. It was decided that the other matters will be discussed by the council as a whole. GISBORNE, June 18. The first ©lection for the members of tho Poverty Bay Electric Power Board was hold to-day, when for the Gisborne Borough Messrs F. R. Bale, I. Mirficld, G. Wildish, and T. Todd were returned. The other members of the board were elected unopposed, comprising three for Waikohu County (Messrs C. H. Bridge, B. J. Holdsworth, and O. V. Russell) and four for Oook County (Messrs F S. Bowen. T. Corsen, A. C. Steele, andsO. H. Williams,). CHRISTCHURCH. June 18 Ernest James Hawkins, a school committee secretary, was lined 40s and costa for putting only a j enny stamp on a receipt for 116 given to the Railway Department in connection with a school picnic.
