TECHNICAL SCHOOL MANAGERS.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Technical School Board of Managers was held yesterday atternoon; present —Messrs T. Scott (chairman), J. Horn, M.P., J. Haymes, J. H. Wallace, E. Rcaevear, J. T. Raul, I). Laniach, W. 11. Steel, H. H. S. White, G. Clark, E. F. Duthie, Mrs Gumming, and Miss Runciman. The Finance Committee recommended that accounts totalling £156 19s 7d be passed for payment. The regular monthly salaries, totalling £748 16s 9d, were also recommended for payment.—Adopted. The Appointments Committee reported that 63 written applications had been received for the position of cleaner and handy man at tho school. After reviewing ail applications it recommended that Mr R. H. Stewart be appointed to the position.— It wa s decided to inform Mr Stewart accordingly. ’Che Director (Mr A- Marshall) submitted the following report.—The Technical High School and the technical classes both opened for the second term On June 9, and although there have been, as usual, a few withdrawals, the attendance is regarded as very satisactory. On account of the building operations, we have this year not been able to avail ourselves of the direct connection between the college building and Burt Hall. While tho good weather lasted this was not a. serious inconvenience, but during the past week cur work has been greatly hampered. It will therefore be understood that pupils and teachers alike are unanimous in their desire for tho completion of the building. In pursuance of the resolution of tho board, I have arranged with Mr Pearson the terms upon which he will continue to be employed on tho Balmacewen property. Tho Drainage Board has had the sewer in Balmacewen road extended to the point where a suitable fall is obtainable for the lavatory block. In order to effect tho drainage connection, it will bo necessary to pass through the corner of the adjoining property, and it would be well, before operations are begun, to explain tho position and seek permission from the Otago Golf Club. Miss Finlay forwarded her resignation, asking to be relieved from duty in tho Technical High School as from June 7. She will, however, continue till tho end of the present term her services in connection with the evening classes.—Adopted. Tho Secretary of the Y.W.C.A. wrote asking if it wore possible to hire one of tho seiiool lawn tennis courts for use after school hours and on Saturday afternoons during the lawn tennis season. Owing to tho extension of their buildings, the Y.W.C.A. had been deprived of its courts. —The director was instructed to write stating that the courts were fully engaged throughout the season, and the request would have to be declined.
