"VOLLEY BALL."

NEW GAME .FOR RESTRICTED AREAS. Those interested in providing recreation for tho younger generation would be well advised to take note of an American game called “Volley Ball. ’ The equipment is very simple and inexpensive. There is a net about 12in deep that is stretched at a height of six or seven feet between two poets. A ball, slightly smaller than the regulation football, is used. The number of players on each side can be altered, but is usually nine. They are only allowed to touch the ball with their hands. The ball is served from the back of a court somewhat after the fashion of tennis, but without racquet or bat. The other side return it, if possible, and the aim of me players is to prevent it touching the ground. If tho side serving allow it to drop, except on the opponents’ side of tho net, they service. If they are not serving, they lose one point. The loss of 21 points means tho leas of a game, and three games complete tho match. “Volley Ball” gives all the players plenty of exorcise; the amount of space needed is about that of a tennis court; and the cost is very slight. In fact, it meets in many respect? the demand in British industrial centres for a new ball game.
