Cr MacManus moved that danse 1 lie referred back to the committee. Clause 1 asked for authority to servo the necessary notices in connection with three drams-in-common. Cr MacManua said he* moved tins cn the grounds of an objection to property owners throughout the city and most of the suburban ureas being compelled to pay for (be construction of drains-m-common when at tho same time the Anderson’s Bay suburban residents are, exempted from such payment, and are privileged to have their drains-in-comnion pa.id for at pub.ic expense. What Cr MacManus had said was nows to him, and u u was true he thought all the drains in the city should be nut on the same footing.—Cr Wilson said Cr MacManus was totally wrong in respect to this. The old board put as many drains-m-common in ns possible in order to save tho public, a hat method had not been adopted in Anderson s Bay. Drains-in-common were now being put m in Andoieon’s Bay just as in other parts of „he town. It would not do to eliminate diaius-In-oonimon altogether. The boaro had taken over all the draina-hi-common. The whole of the city ehould have been drained on the same system as Anderson’s Bay. Cr Shacklock drew attention to the fact tii-il the drains under discussion were referred to not as “clniins-in-common’ but as ",--ew"rs through private property. —The Chairman said he had a doubt in his mind nc- to the exact position, and he thought it would be as well to allow the clause to go Cv Wilson said that wouid simply old' m, work. Cr MacManus could onng up the‘points he wished to make before .he °°The amendment was lost on tho voices, -nd the reuort adopted.
