BALLOONING
THE GOEDON-BEN NEIT CUP. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BRUSSELS, June 16. Eighteen balloons have started in the Gordon-Bennett race, heading for Germany. One carried 13 passengers.—Sydney Sun Cable. Tho Gordon-Bennett Cup in 1923 was won by Belgium, E. Demuyter being tho pilot. Tho distance covered was about 680 miles. The event was accompanied by tragic incidents, four out of 15 balloons being struck by lightning and brought down, hive of the pilots lost their lives. An English balloon fell into the Cattegat, but the passengers were rescued. The ballooning record is 1895 miles, held by Germany; British record 1117 miles'; French record 1375 miles.
