AMERICA’S IDLE FLEET
CONVERSION INTO MOTOR SHITS. HUGE ACHIEVEMENT PLANNED. Presa Association—By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, June 10. (Received June 17, at 0.20 p.m.) The United States is preparing to electrify the entire merchant marine by converting hundreds of the Governmentowned trading vessels into motor ships. The campaign to rejuvenate the service and make it a strong factor in tho world’s commerce will be accomplished in two ways—firstly, by the Government converting its own vessels; and secondly, lending money to private owners on a “50-50” basis for conversion purposes or the purchase of converted vessels from the Government. —Sydney Sun Cable.
