TRAMCAR FATALITY.
A SCHOOLBOY KILLED. RUN OVER BY MORNING TON CAR. A fatality of a particularly distressing nature occurred in High street yesterday afternoon, when a little boy named Cyril Victor Herbert Kelly, aged five years and four months, was knocked down and killed by the Mornington cable oar. The boy left the High Street School at about 2.20 p.m., and after walking down the road as far os William street, was seen to run in front of a car which was proceeding towards the city. The unfortunate lad was knocked down and drawn under the wheels. The tram officials did not see the accident, but apparently felt a bump. The car proceeded to Maitland street, where a passenger drew the gripman’s attention to the fact that an accident had happened, and when the undergear of the car was examined the mangled remains of the little boy was discovered. The body was conveyed to a private hospital, and subsequently transferred to the Morgue. The victim of the accident was the only child of Mr R. U. Kelly, of 55 Serpentine avenue. An inquest will be held this morning.
