BOXING.

NOVICE TOURNAMENT. A novice tournament was commenced at the King’s Theatre last night under the auspices of the Otago Boxing Association. Mr T. M. Gillies was master of ceremonies, Mr J. KUnia.rlm referee, and Messrs P. Kuston and Bon Patterson judges. PAPER-WEIGHTS (Three two-minute rounds). A. Lccirie 6.7 beat J. Campbell 5.9. Lcckie proved too strong for his opponent, and the referee stopped ttre light a.t the end of the first round. PLY-WEIGHTS (Three three-minute rounds). W. Francis 7.7 beat A. A. Rowe 7.8, The contest was fought at a whirlwind pace from start to finish. Francis used both hands well, and did most of tho leading. Both lads were loudly cheered. BANTAMS. W, Parker 8.3 beat W. Hand 8.7. Parker quickly rook the lead and got home With some straight lefts and solid righthand swings. Parker was always in front on points, and the referee stopped the fighi nt the end of the second round. FEATHERS. V. M. Drew 9.0 boat A. Xordmeyer 9.2. Tile first round had tiie spectators convulsed with laughter. The men tore into each other and rained blows from ail directions They were fighting just as vigorously at the end of the round as at the start, but many of the wild swings finished in the air. VVhitton <iid most of the leading and won comfortably at the finish. Townsend used a good let, but his blows lacked weight. LIGHT-WEIGHTS. H. Harwood 10.0 beat J. M. Mains 9.7. Some fine- rallies took place and a lot of vigorous in-fighting. Neither youth was ,V. uux R. Mams scored well with a gt>ocl left. Harwood has a nice stylo an<t Bhould develop into a good boxer. He used both hands well, and sent in a solid left now and then with judgment. His timing was also good. F. Jiggers 10.0 beat E. G. Bad brook 9.7. Aggers used a solid left to advantage and won all the way. His timing with his left hand was quit© a feature. WELTER-WEIGHTS. G Edwards 10.7 beat G.
