MUSIC AT PICTURE THEATRES.
TO THE EDITOB. Bir,—l have frequented picture theatres in this and other towns, because in them I could, on any night, hear good music well rendered. Although Duneclin hitherto has not lagged behind her sister towns in this respect, yet lately the class of music being played by our leading picture orchestras "has steadily declined. One theatre orchestra in particular has fallen far in musical attainment, and "rock bottom" was reached on Saturday night last, when a full house was subjected to a programme of utterly soulless music-mere sounds which might have been more fittingly reproduced by a child with a stick upon a tin fence than by talented p!ayer s upon musical instruments. Kecollection of programmes of good music well rendered by the same orchestra proves, to me that the fault lies not with the players, but with the music selected for their playing, and I trust that in the interests of all concerned an immediate return will be made to music worthy of execution by the talented musicians who compose our picture theatre orchestras. —I am, E. A. R. Ache. Juaa 15.
