MONEY LOST IN BETTING. » ______ (Pee United Bbess Association.) . ; AUCKLAND, June 16;;:' The theft of £l6O was admitted by James Thomas Foster Hownrth. who pleaded guilty in the Police Court, Auckland, to a charge of having stolen £62 7s Bd,- the property of the New Zealand Government,at Taukau. lie gave a farmer a receipt for that amount, but failed to hand the money' in, destroying the duplicate of the receipt. Accused, in a statement, admitted that t ho had misappropriated other sums totalling£l67 9s 4d while a postal officer at Taukau. Ho said that he had lost it in betting -with a bookmaker and was unable to meet his obligations. Accused was committed for sentence.
