Hot motot plates, warmed by electricity, ar.e set into the ground at certain street corners in Amsterdam. They are intendea for the comfort of policemen on point duty. Mr A. J. Sohnan, senior principal doorkeeper of the House of Lords, has resigned on account of ill-health. He is 64 years of age. and has served 154 years in the House. The Houghton-lc-Spring (Durham) Guardians have decided to abandon the wireless set at the workhouse because " it is like the howling of dogs and exasperates the inmates.”
