INDUCTION AT OWAKA.

Despite inclement weather, there were satisfactory gatherings at the induction of Uie Rev. J. C. Patorson, ALA. (formerly cf Lincoln, Canterbury), as pastor for the Chvaka Presbyterian Cnurch. The Clutha Presbytery having met in the vestry of the church and attended ho the usual preliminaries, divine worship was conducted and a sermon preached by tne Kev. A. V. G. Chandler from the subject of the vine and the branches (John xv, 5). The Rev. W. R. Hume (moderator) then put the proscribed questions to both minister and congregation. .-uier prayer the members of Presbytery gave the right hand of lellowship to Mr Paterson, who was then suitably addressed on the duties of the ministerial office by the i\ev. The enjoyment of the social was much enhanced try the members of the choir, who rendered several anthems in able fashion. Ducts were sung by Mesdames J,atta and Stevenson and by Miss bheddon and Mrs Stevenson and solos by Airs Tabor and Miss I.atta, all receiving hearty applause. On the motion of Mr 1. Barr, a vote cf thanks was recorded the speakers, and Mr Don proposed a similar ycte to chair, singers, and ladies for refreshments. _Vir Clapperton expressed die indebtedness ot the Presbyterian community to Mr Barr for his strenuous work duriug the vacancy, and on the motion of Mr Stevenson, the interim moderator was cordially tha *ed tor his unremitting labours in securing them a minister, this being endorsed by a tangible token of regard m the shape of a cheque. Mr Paterson was present at the meeting of the Clutha Presbytery on Prulay ]n Balclutha. and was duly welcomed by the McderAor on taking his seat m Presbytery.
