HOCKEY.

TECHNICAL COLLEGE v. OLD BOYS. The Technical College and Old Boys game was played on Oval No. 3, which v. as in a very heavy condition through ihe recent bad weather. The first half was fairly oven, and Old Boys registered their first goal just before the whistle sounded. Play commenced by Old Boys attacking, and Gymnastic were hard pressed for some time. Good play by* Fleet, Templeton, and Patterson relieved, and Gymnastic forwards swept ui.ficld. Speculating bj Lockhart let them through, and Swan was called upon to clear. Plav hung round Old Boys’ twenty-five for several minutes, but Ihe Reds could not penetrate the defence. From a clearance Harris received and -ent in a. hot shot, but Patterson saved brilliantly. A little later C. Sew Hoy centred, and Jorv netted. Old Bovs, 1; Gymnastic, nil. On changing - over Gymnastic attacked, and some fine play by Robertson and Mercer lot their forwards away. However, offside play spoilt their efforts. They kept up the pressure, and Swan was called on to clear. Hard hitting by Munro and Lockhart carried play to the other end, but Old Boys could not find the net, although they went very close to it on many occasions. Up-and-down play followed, with Old Boys holding a slight advantage. From a melee in Gymnastics’ goal Johnston netted. 2—o. Time was called a little later without any further score. Messrs Wallace and Mitchell officiated as referees. CITY v. UNIVERSITY A. City and University A mot on the Oval No. 1. After a strong attack Bridgman opened University’s score. City then took charge for a time, and a fine forward movement ended in M’lvor sending in a hot shot from a nice pass by Mayston on the left. Then both sides participated evenly until haJftime, and a good exhibition of the game was put up by the forwards especially. City had a couple of corner hots, but Duncan was not successful. From an attack by the Blues. City were penalised, and could not clear, Leonard netting from the rim of the circle. The score at half-time was: University A, 2; City, 1. City showed much improved form in the second spell. During the latter part of the second spell City’s forwards and halves took charge and pressed nearly all the time. Mayston’s goal was a splendid finish to a very neat bit of passing, and this was followed shortly after by a goal from Duncan—the result of a nice, long comer hit by Smith. The same player shortly after again netted from a good follow-in. The final scores were: City 4 University A 2 Messrs J. Starr and J. P. Northey controlled the game. 1 SECOND GRADE. Otago met Girls’ High School on No. 1 ground at the Oval, which, owing to the recent rain, was rather heavy. Utago played with two emergencies, while the School team was one player short. Shortly after the commencement of the game a good centre from Miss Hanlin was accepted by Miss Pickering, who scored. Otago 1, G.H.S. nil. Otago were pressing strongly, and after some scrambling in front of the goal again scored. Otago 2, G.H.S. nil. Girls’ High School put more vim into the game in the second spell, which was more oven. Miss Hanlin added Otago’s third goal, which wa« quickly followed by the School team netting the ball, Otago 5, G.H.S. 1. Miss Pickering, following in quickly again, scored for Otago, a performance which was reneatod by Miss Morrison. .Otago 5, G.H.S. 1. From a corner hit on Otago’s goal line School scored with a hot shot. Otago 5. G.H.S. 2. A brilliant run by the School forwards was stopped by Otago’s full backs, and nlay was returned to the opposite end of the field, when Miss P. Lawson succeeded in adding an additional goal to Otago’s score. Give-and-take plav resulted for the remaining few minutes of the game, which ended; Otago 6 Girls’ High School 2 B GRADE. Technical Old Girls No. 23, Triangle No. 2 nil. Green Island won by default from Taieri. Otago B 1 7, Waiata nil. Triangle B 1 5, Ravenshourno B 1 nib Moroona 6, Kaikorai 2.
