THE JUDGING OF CLYDESDALES.
Sir, Mr .Tamos Patrick is reported to have said at the annual meeting of the Clydesdale Horeo Society that past judges have not been competent and (hat consequently much harm has been done. Mr Patrick has won the challenge cup four times with a different, animal on each occasion, and he has now had the trophv reluctantly forced from him. Such being the ease he must naturally be considered to speak from experience. Baron Bold and Baron Sandy (each of them, in my opinion, suffering from hereditary faults) were his first two winners; Scotland’s Conqueror (sold at gelding price) was hi.s third, and his latest importation, Kddlewood Topline was his fourth and final winner. Apart from the last-named horse’s other defects, I maintain he is altogether too small for the breeding of commercial or show horses. In view of the facts, the society should have given more consideration to Mr Patrick’s honest, weighty words of wisdom. His remarks, coming as they did from one of wide and varied experience and of undoubted honesty of purpose, should not have been brushed aside as unworthy of consideration. —I am, etc., Sound Common Horse Sense.
