"IF WINTER COMES."

When A. S. M. Hutchinson wrote “If Winter Comes,” he contributed to the world of fiction the literary sensation of a decade. William Fox has produced the screen counterpart of this now famous novel, which bids fair to become the most-talked-of photoplay of the season. It will he given its first public local showing at the Octagon Theatre, commencing on Friday, Juno 20. Photographed in England, in the actual scones pictured by the author, which have become so familiar to the average household, the photonlny is a fine authentic achievement which has commanded the profuse commendation of Mr Hutchinson himself. Some idea of tho thoroughness that marks the screen reproduction of “If AVinter Comes” mav be gleaned from the following facta:—Director Harry Milliarde, with a company of screen artists, headed by Percy Marmont. who plays Mark Sabre, and Miss Ann Forrest, the Nona of the story, spent one year in England to complete the picture. Mr Hutchinson personally aided Milliarde in the production and election of locations. Eight English towns were used to visualise Ticlborough. Tho entire Royal West Kent Regiment, known at the Buffs, were used in the military scenes. Among the historic places used for atmosphere were Chilhatn Castle, dating back to Caesar, 56 b.o. ; Canterbury Cathedral and the precincts: Leeds Castle; the “old court of the Plnntageneta”; Aylesbury courthouse, and many other sections of historic old St. Albans. The box plan opens on Monday at Begg’s.
