NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS.

PARTY PACT. NATIONALISTS AND PI!OG RESSIVES. (From Opr Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, June o. Tin’ compact which has been entered into between the State Government and the Parliamentary Progressive Party for the, forthcoming session, and relating to the programme of legislation which will be submitted to Parliament, has got the Ministry out of a delicate position, for it was between Scylla. and Charybdis. On the other hand, it saw disgruntled Progressives, whose party it looked to' for a safe working majority, and, on the other hand, an active r-ahour Opposition, which revels in a little hit of fighting when it thinks the time is opportune, and which has the advantage of consisting almost wholly of vigorous young men who delight in keeping the House up nil night when older men want to go to S ' P The Labour Party intends to launch a censure motion on the Address-in-Rcply, but now that the Nationalists and the Progressives have entered into working pact for the session its attempt to oust the Government this session at all events will be tantamount to the foolishness of Dame Partingion, when she found the tide surging round her doorstep and tried to sweep it back. The best a censure motion bv the party can do is to delay business. Ministers, however, will have no fear of opposition from the Proeressivos. The Progressives’ proposals which the Government has agreed to embody in its programme include boring for waiter for irrigation purposes, cross-country linos, and other country developmental schemes.
