THE AMATEUR CONTROVERSY. SPECIAL COMMITTEE APPOINTED. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyrifit. NEW YORK, June 12. (Received June 13, at 9.15 p.m.) Mr George Wightman, president of the United States Lawn Tennis Association announces the appointment of four members of a committee who, with others of their own selection, will consider the interpretation of the player-writer amateur rule, and report in December. The men named are Messrs W. T. Tilden, S. W. Merihew (who is opposed to the prevailing interpretation) and J. W. Mesereau and Arthur Hellen, members of the Amateur Rules Committee.
