R. .Carey’s extraordinary tour into the Far North of the North Island. The photograph indicates the almost unbelievable conditions that faced the old Hupp. Mr. Carey wisely elected not to take his own car, and on the morning of his departure bought a 1914 model Hupp from The Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association's Garage. Without any overhaul whatever, and with 10 years of hard usage to its credit, the Hupp covered 1623 miles in 16 days, carrying, as well as the four passengers, a big quantity of luggage and road equipment. Mr. Carey says: “The old Hupp pulled like a Briton.” The Hupp makers have always specialised in a four-cylinder engine, and the trustiness of the traditional 1914 model is strikingly emphasised in the Hupp to-day.
