The following clauses are extracted from the committee reports to he presented to tho meet 1115 of the City Council next Wednesday : -- The General Committee reports that two applications for licenses to carry on offensive trades, one application for a transfer of a billiard-room license, and two applications for second-hand dealers’ licenses have been granted. One renewed application for a taxi driver’s license has been further considered and again declined, and one application for. permission to set up. a peanut stall in High street, opposite the Grand Hotel, has been declined. The Works Committee reports that authority lias been granted the city engineer to can-; out permanent improvements to the footway in Cranley street, i’ainv.i. The work is not provided for in the allocations, i)tlt the expenditure will be limited to the balance available out of the vote of £10!) allocated for formation of footway through the reserve at Anderson's Hay. The Tramways Committee reports that the council's delegates (Cr Douglas and the tramway manager) to the conference regarding the proposed new tramway regulations, called bv the Minister of Public Woike, proceeded to Wellington on June 27. All the employers in the dominion and the employees also worn fully icpresented, and were given a full opinr.tumty to place their views before the Minister. The Finance Committee recommends that authority ha granted to arrange with the publishers of "Progressive New Zealand” to reserve two pages for the use of the City Council for advertising the attractions cf the city. Tho cost of the two pages with attractively designed matter printed in two colours will be £l5O. “Progressive New Zealand” is being published by the Dominion Advisory Council cf the British Empire Exhibition for the purpose of supplementing the Now Zealand exhibit at the Exlubitton on a world-wide scale. The Government, local bodies, and leading business interests of tho dominion arc all supporting'the publication. Samples of the matter that will appear, in the publication are laid on the table for the information of the council.
