(Received June 12, at 5.5 p.m.) Speaking at a dinner tendered to him b v a number of prominent Australians, Sir Robert Horne paid a tribute to Mr W M Hughes as a protagonist of Imperial trade.° Personally ho was neither a Protectionist nor a tree trader, but simply a business man, and he wondered how anyone could bo so foolish as to destroy preference. —A. and N.Z.
