PALMERSTON COLLIE CLUB.

ANNUAL TRIALS The fifth annual sheen dor? trials were continued by the Palmerston Collie Club on the property of Mr John Philip, near Palmerston. on Tuesday and yesterday, and were concluded late yesterday afternoon, Tuesday being the weekly half-holiday, in Palmerday, there was an unusually large attendance of onlookers. Many had come from * distance, and the attendance may be gauged from the fact that there were no less’ than 50 motor cans on the ground. Yesterday they numbered 20. The weather broke badly soon after midday yesterday, and it rained heavilv, and became very cold. Mr P A. Watt, of Warepa. again acted as judge, and the officials cf the club worked hard to make the trials the undoubted success they wer.e. The trifles are said to have been the most successful yet held by the Palmerston Club. Two guessing competitions as to the weight of sheep were held, Mr J. Purdue, of Niehtcaos, and Mr D. Guffie, cf Palmerston, both 'guessing the correct weight of the. one sheep (961 b), and Mr J. S. Miller, of Palmerston, and Mr J. M‘Oa.be, of Morrisons, the correct weight of the other (103lh). fine prizes were divided. The opinion w!Ls freely expressed that a better class of dogs ha., rover been seen at the trails, the work of the dogs being of an especially high order. Mr A. M. Taylor proved an indefatigable secretary, and was most obliging in supplying all possible information. At the close of the trials, the President of the club (Mr R. Cameron), addressing the few persons remaining on the ground', mentioned that many of the competitors had come from a distance, and had won the “big money,” and he congratulated them upon their wins. He hoped to see them back again next year. They had been fortunate in getting the use of such a ground in winch fo hold the trials, and they were indebted to Mr Philin. the owner. The judge had como a long way, and as far no he oonld hear his decisions had given satisfaction. He moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Watt, which was carried bv applause.
