A concert and social was held in the Hillend Cnurch on Thursday last in aid of the church repair fund. The audience, which filled the building, showed its appreciation of the varied and interesting programme byrepeated encores. The Rev. A. V. G. Chandler, minister of the parish, presided, and explained the purpose of the function. The children's items reflected great credit upon the children themselves and upon their teacher, Miss Hall. The dialogue, " City Ignorance,” by the senior girls, and the trio, •• Three Old Maids of Lee,” were well received. Excellent musical items were rendered by Mesdames Taylor, Woods, and Wallace, Mieses E. Hnllam, Robertson, Hall, and Messrs Taylor, Little, and lan Park, and a violin solo by Miss Allison and a duet by Misses L. Park and K. Cunningham. The musical items being nicely interspersed with well-rendered recitations by. Miss L. Park, Miss M. Wallace, Master F. Hallam. and Mrs Wallace. , The ceremony of unveiling the Soldiers Memorial. Tablet took place on Sunday, April 13, in the Pukeawa Hall. The devotional ; service was conducted by the Rev. A. V. G. Chandler, who took for his text the words: ■ Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Mr R. K. Grigor and Mr John Edie, M.P., delivered appropriate addresses, and the unveiling of the tablet was performed by Mr John Thomson, father of one of the fallen soldiers. “The Last Post” was played by Mr M. Low, and the sacred duet by Mrs and Mv Taylor and the sacred solo by Mr J. T. Wilson added to the impressiveness of the ceremony, which concluded with the National Anthem' and the benediction. Completed the Examination for the Diploma in Social Science. —Buchanan, Robert Ogilvic; Firth, Raymond William; Price, Francis Matthew Passed the Examination for Diploma in Social Science. —Atkinson, Harry Albert (in. economics); Jefcoate, Harold Oliver (in psychology, ethics, sociology); Magill, Margaret (in economics); Nordmeyer, Arnold Henry (in sociology, psychology-). SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS. The results of the recent supplementary law and accountancy examinations are as follows : Law.—Ackins, K. C.; Marshall; T. C.; Rolfe, F. J. Accountancy.—Boulton, G. N.; Henry. N. L. (bookkeeping); Malloch, D. W.; MTver, L. D.; Taylor, F. C. The results of 15 candidates who sat for auditing are still undecided, and will not be available for a few days.
