WATERSIDE WORKER CHARGED,

(Per United P.ress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. April 1. A sentence of one month’s imprisonment was passed on Benjamin Woan, a waterside worker, in the Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton to-day, when he was charged with stealing a pair of boots from the cargo of the Piako. Evidence was given that accused was seen to come on deck and throw a pair of boots overboard, and when approached he was wearing a new pair of boots. The bench held that the charge was clearly proved, and refused to give 1 the option of a fine.
