THE WEATHER.
LIGHT SHOWERS FALL. FINE IN THE EVENING. Early yesterday morning tne weather showed no signs of a change, but in the afternoon heavy clouds banked up, and rain commenced to fall. Hopes were immediately roused that the weather would break, but unfortunately the light showers ceased about 5 o’clock, and prospects of the water shortage being relieved were not fulfilled. No rain fell during tae evening, which was somewhat misty. DRY SPELL IN SOUTHLAND. IPeb Unitko Warms ••vssooiatioh . INVERCARGILL. April 1. The prolonged spell of fine dry weather continues. The rainfall for March was 5.21 in, compared with 9.50 in for the corresponding month of last year. The thermometer registered over 70 for several days, and the country is badly in need of a downpour.
