LAW TO BE ENFORCED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 1. Owing to complaints recently made as to the sale of boots and shoes of inferior quality, or which do not comply with the provisions of the Footwear ..egulation Act, the Hon, 0. .1. Anderson has given instructions to the officers of the Labour Department to be extremely vigilant in “peing that the law is strictly complied with, and that wherever they find there has been a breach of the Act legal proceedings must be taken. This is the scheme to develop 2400 acres of the rich coalfield known as the Birchwood Estate, Southland, the field which hitherto has been confined to private bands. Private, mines in this field have seen the demand for Birch wood coal jump from 17,463 tores in 1918, to 136,876 in 1923, and £1 shares of one of these companies have sold at £4 each by public tender. According to Professor Park, of Otago University, millions of tons of hard brown and pitch coals underlie the property, with 14.000,000 tons under a proved area of 320 acres alone!
