HUMPHREY BISHOP COMPANY

The dressing of the ladies of the Humphrey Bishop Company. duo to open at His Majesty’s on Saturday April 5, is said to be remarkably fine, and was designed and completed by a costumier direct from Paris—the result being an unusual blend of striking and beautiful costumes. The cost inning, however, is said to be only in keeping with the general standard of the show. The original song scenas are presented for the most part by the ladies, and arc reported to provide a pleasing foil to the comedy work of the four comedians. Chief of the latter is Mr Edward Elliott, who toured New Zealand some years ago with the Smart Set. Mr Elliott is a ventriloquist, eiifcrtiTTncr. and eccentric comedian. In the latter department one of his specialties is topical verse, for which ho has an unusual gift, and which he presents very cleverly, but he has a quaint way all bis own and usually has the house in fits of laughter before he speaks a word at all. Robert Roberts, another comedian, is claimed to bo one of the most, versatile performers on the stage today. and whether in comedy, sketch work, juggling, dancing, or character work, he is equally at home. His Gaspard, the Miser, in the famous scene from “Les Cloches dos Cornvillo,” is said to be a masterpiece. Mr George Ross is another artist of many parts, and bails from the Coliseum, Eondon. and the Alhambra, Puis. An unusual entertainment is promised when the curtain rises on Saturday. The prices are popular, and the plan opens at tli» Bristol to-morrow.
