Despite avoirdupois and lack of practice, Warwick Armstrong is still in a class by himself. Playing for Melbourne against Pra’han, premiers for the past three years, ho won 'the match almost single-handed. With his team scratching for runs he made a perfect 55 in an hour, and then skittled seven of the champions for 69. On tho following Saturday, against St. Hilda, he showed a new facet of his versatility. When Herring, the ’keep, left to catch a country train, Armstrong donned the pads, and kept faultlessly for 4G minutes. During the Australian tour of the Chinese Soccer team, the tourists played 24 matches, and 134,009 witnessed these matches. Eight games were won, nine lost, and seven drawn. They scored 63 goals, against 54. They were awarded seven penalties, all of which, they declined to convert, as they do not believe such kicks should be awarded m amateur matches. The tour, which was financed by Australian Tours (Ltd.), is said to have produced .£15.10 net profit. Of this amount the Soccer game will receive 83 per cent. The balance—nearly £3O0 —will go to the promoters. A ball bowled in a recent match at Rockhampton (Queensland) killed a swallow that was flying across the pitch. The batsman bit. the ball, and, while scoring a run, picked up tho bird, and gave it to the umpire at tho bowler’s end.
