ST. CLAIR AND SUNSHINE.
THE CALL OF THE BEACH. When, in the middle of summer, there is every indication of a bright day, the appeal lo enjoy to the fullest extent the blessing of sunshine is felt by thousands; to visit the seaside is the desire of hundreds. And it. is in hundreds that St. Clair and St. Kilda are .visited during beautiful afternoons such as that experienced yesterday. The saltwater baths are an attraction to most; during the mixed bathing hours boys and girls in dozens splash about in the shallow water, while swimmers of both sexes and of more mature years frequent, the deep end. The baths are conducted on up-to-date lines, and the benefits of recent improvements are many. But there is one further improvement that might be made: A division of the dressing boxes into two sections—one for each sex—would be appreciated. Apart from those who actuallv go into the water, there arc others who obtain pleasure from the baths, for onlookers are numerous. Mothers watch and find enjoyment in watching their children enjoying themselves, and others who can appreciate a quiet afternoon enjoy a rest within the enclosure while they find much to interest them in the healthy exercise of their younger or more energetic fellows.
The beach itself is swarmed by youngsters who dive about and make a noise—to them the spice of life. Right from one end of the stretch of sand to the other there are to be found groups of children at play, and one can but be impressed with the full measure of enjoyment that is sought and found in a healthy resort.
