AMENITIES SOCIETY.
Tie usual monthly meeting of the Dunedin Amenities Society was held yesterday afternoon in Mr BartJeman’g office, Crawford street, the following being present:— Messrs Alex. Bathgate (chairman), C. P. M. Butterwortb, D. Tannock. and (J. R. Ritchie, Sir Geo. Fenwick, the Hon. G M. Thomson, and Mr J. Ash, hon. secro-., tary. An apology was received from I"r A. Chamberlain. It was reported that Mr C. P. M. Butterworth had forwarded a cheque for £ls, being his donation for improvements to Wallace street.—Received with thanks. The hon. secretary reported that 21 pew members had been enrolled. Some discussion took place with regard to an area of 10 acres of land near the rifle range which it was understood was available, and might with advantage bo ised for scenic purposes.—lt was resolved that. Messrs Ritchie and Butterworth and the hon. secretary be empowered to make tho necessary inquiries. « 1 It was decided to hold the annual meeting as early in February as possible. Sir George Fenwick, who purposes taking a trip abroad, was granted 12 months’, leave of absence, and the hope was expressed that he would spend a pleasant add profitable time in the countries he purposed visiting.
