The second round of the Bruntsfield

medal was played on Balmacewcn links on Saturday afternoon. Competitors who made an early start were more favoured with the weather conditions, as a strong northeast wind which sprang up was disconcerting to the later starter. K. Ross won with a round of 74, showing an aggregate of 151 for the two rounds. J. R. Callender and H. Ramsay were next with aggregates of 167 The handicap on the second round was won by A. N. Haggitt, with a net score of 70—this being a similar net score to that returned by A. I. Hunter, who won lost week’s handicap. The best scores were: —- Gross. H’cp. T’l. A. N. Haggitt 84 14 70 J. W. Gow 81 S 75 K. Ross 74 5 77 J. R. Callender 34 5 79 J. P. Rutherford 95 16 79 BELLEKNOWHS CLUB. The Belleknowes Golf Club, as the club playing on the Town Belt, near the junction of the Maori Hill-Roslyn tramway line, will in future be known, was formally opened on Saturday afternoon. Mr C. Russell Smith (the president) performed the opening ceremony, driving a ball from the first tee. and afterwards those present participated in a friendly game. Mr Smith, in the course of his remarks, outlined how the club came to be formed, an action principally due to the energy and enthusiasm of Mr M. B. M'Kenzie, the captain, who had originated the idea and, what was more to the purpose, had spared no effort in bringing it to a successful issue. To Mr Tannook. the Superintendent of Reserves, the club would always be under a debt of gratitude, for without his valuable aid and friendly advice the club could not have attained its present position. Mr Tannock throughout had taken a keen interest in the promotion of the links and recognising that the members were willing and prepared to undertake the work and not shirk paying for their amusement, had come to their assistance in a splendid manner, and the support and encouragement given by him was an incentive that could not fail to have satisfactory results. In concluding his remarks, Mr Smith said he desired to convey to the gentlemen mentioned and those connected with the work the grateful thanks of the members for providing handy links for this favourable recreation, end at the same time he asked those present and all belonging to the chib to remember that this was really an experiment that would be carefully watched by outsiders. He had been informed that, on some municipal links thoughtless selfishness and dfscourtosv had been shown bv players, and

retaliation by outsiders had been experienced. It behoved all taking part to be careful to show consideration to one another and to anyone crossing the links, for it was only by so doing that they could hope to receive consideration themselves from their club-mates and members of the public.— (Applause.) The links are situated on the Town Belt immediately alongside the Punga Croquet Club, and run from Lawson street, RosIvn, as fur down as the residence of Mr C. Sneitrht, and extend from the tramline to Alison crescent. Ten hoels are in course of construction —seven above Young street natlrway and three below. As the course is limited in its extent, it has been found necessary to limit the membership to 50 gentlemen and 50 ladies. The services of Mr Fox. a professional coach, are available. '
