TO THE editor: Sih,—ln to-day’s Daily Times I notice that the Otago Acclimatisation Society urges the City Council to establish a zoological park in Dunedin. I am quite of the same opinion as your correspondent of a few days ago that such a project is both unnecessary and uncalled for. Your correspondent very ably points out (I unfortunate fate of those an finals that are •‘cribbed, cabined, and confined” for the whole term of thoir natural life. The plan adopted at the Sydney Zoological Gardens of a series of sunk fences—so that, at first sight, all the animals, including the snakes, seem to be at large and able to escape—-would Ire too expensive and too great an undertaking here. Besides we have not the warm and genial climate of Now South Wales. Wild animals do not thrive in captivity. Their instincts of selfpreservation, hunting for food, ana mating no longer have free play. They are overfed by the general public with unsuitable food ns buns, cakes, etc., and in their wirenetting compartments are at all times subject to the small-boy nuisance armed with shanghais. This I witnessed a short time ago in the case of the black swans in the Botanic Gardens. The proposed zoological park is emphatically an expensive innovation which wo could do very well without. —1 am, etc., Na run a I,ist December 15 WHAT A WHOLESALE CHEMIST USED. A Wholesale Chemist should be a prettv good judge as to what is the best cough and cold remedy, as ho has command of all the preparations on the market, Tb.e other day, the writer of Baxter’s Lung Preserver advertisements happened to be in the office of n lending wholesaler in a South Island town, and on fhe desk he noticed a bottle of this well-known specific. “Got a cold?” asked the advertising man. “No,” replied the wholesale chemist, "I have just arrested it in time. You know I have come to the conclusion that this ‘Bax- ■ tor’s' is wonderful stuff. Our turnover has , been rapidly increasing during recent j-ears. ; and I often wondered whether the mixture had any real merit. I felt a cold coming ; on the other day, and I got p. bottle from the store. There is no doubt about it, Baxter’s Lung Preserver possesses great power. 1 It eased mv throat in no time. I do not ! wonder why so many of mv customers : have such a steady call for the p.-apara- 1 lion ” The public long ago found out that “Bax- 1 tor’s” is unrivalled as a cough, cold, and influenza mixture.
