OPENING OF ST. CLAIR CLUB. I A DECIDED IMPROVEMENT. - There was a large attendance at the official opening of the St. Clair Life-saving and Surf Bathing Club on Saturday afternoon, and the weather conditions were, all that could be desired. Mr FI. H Henderson (president) introduced Mr I K. Sidey, M.P., patron o. the club. Mr Sidey expressed pleasure at having been re-elected patron, and congratulated the club on its improved position. Referring to the improved boach conditions, the speaker eulogised the efforts of those who had at last arrested the inroads of water and allowed tint sand to accumulate and so make a delightful beach Tho club was not rendering a service to St. Clair alone, but also to the whole of Dunedin. The club had also to bo commended for its energy in encouraging tho sport of swimming, which, on the authority of Dr King, was to he placed in tho front rank oi health-giving sports. Mr Sidey then declared the season open, and wished the club every success. . Members of the club gave an interesting display of life-saving in tho surf, and attracted a large crowd to the water’s edge. The club officials having entertained the public so far, proceeded to entertain the children and numerous races and competitions wore hold. The kiddies were in their element, and the fact that prizes were being awarded attractor! them from every direction Tho judges were Messrs H. Henderson. C. Walker, and P; J.
