CHINESE ANT) A REVOLVER. INTRUDER SHOT IN THE LEG. (Per United Press Association.) HAWBRA, December 15. A message from Patea stales that the peace of the town was disturbed about 11 o’clock last night bv the sound of discharging firearms, *VVoiig, a fruiterer in Egmont street, was retiring to bed when ho heard the sounds of o back window opening. Shortly after he heard the footsieps of two men within the building. \vbng. with a. loaded revolver, went to the door of the room whence the sounds came. AH was in darkness. He called out two or throe times. “Hands up.” There was no resoonsc to the demand and fired at'the floor. Again the challenge was renewed, and was again ro.sultlesft He fired once more, but this time ho hit one of the intruders in the lee. and the other who was not hit made a hasty exit. The wounded man came to Wong, who was keeping him covered. He switched on the. light in the shop and ordered the man off the oremises. The wounded man is now in hospital. Thj> affair seems to have started in a joke to frighten Wong.
