The long-continued spell of dry weather lias oomo at a most inopportune time for the Department, as the work on tbo new dam has been seriously retarded during the last two summers owing to excessive rainfall. The dam is now sufficiently advanced to bo of great assistance to the undertaking, but awaits the rains before it can be filled up. Normal November and December 'rainfall would have provided sufficient water to meet our requirements, but until rain relieves the present position the Department is loft with no alternative but to ask the co-operation of all consumers in restricting their demand as far as possible.
