SCHOOL BUILDINGS.
ECONOMY IN CONSTRUCTION. (Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 14. A recent circ-tLar from the Education Department was strongly criticised at the Education Board meeting to-day. The circular stated that the Minister was convinced fhat economies were possible in the construction of school buildings, and that ik was imperative that until arrears of work were overtaken the cost of construction must bo cut down to the lowest possible minimum consistent with obtaining satisfactory buildings. The questions of day labour versus tenders and use of wood in buildngs was also raised. The chairman said that building m wood was a very retrograde step, while the suggestion that corridors should be open •n this climate did not have any reasonable basis. Other members expressed similar opinions. The matter was eventually deferred pending a report from the architects and a sub-committee.
