OTAGO GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
ANNUAL SPOUTS The annual athletic competitions amongst tthc pupils attending the Girls' High School ■were hold on the Caledonian Ground yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of parents. The afternoon was a line one. hut a high wind blew from a northeiTy direction. "The sports were interesting. and in some cases amusing. Several of the competitions could not but present an amusing side. These were the crocodile and three-legged races, a sack rate, a potato race, and an egg .and spoon race, all of which provided amusement to spectators and competitors alike, and it is just difficult to say whether those watching or those competing enjoyed them most. In a more serious direction there were a number of running, walking, and jumping events, ail of which were keenly contested, and also net-ball throwing and hockey ball striking. Tor the girls it was particularly good and happy afternoon s outing, and provided an abundance of healthy recreation and exercise of a suitab.e character. Every competitor was eager to win, and the" contests were in many cases net won without, a hard tussle, and then only by a narrow margin. The sports were admirably managed by those controlling them.
