FOOTBALL SENSATION. PENALTY OF ACCEPTING GIFTS. Preen Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 8. (Received Nov. 8, at S p.m.) Last year the Newport Rugby Club, as a mark of its team’s invincible record, made gifts to the players with the consent of the Welsh Rugby Union. The Scottish Rugby Union has now created a football sensation by informing Neil Macpherson, ex-captain of the Newpor .cam, that unless he returns the gifts he may not be considered again in Scotland, for which ho has played six times. —A. and N.Z. Cable. PORT CHALMERS REGATTA. A meeting, presided over by Mr J. Watson, was held at Port Chalmers last night to give further consideration to the proposal to hold a regatta at Port Chalmers. It was decided to hold the regatta on the Saturday afternoon between Christmas and New Year. The business transacted included the nomination of patrons, commodore, vice-commodoree, and other officials and several committees were appointed. The appointment of a General Committee was held over for the next fortnightly meeting.
