AMERICAN POLITICS

RESULT OF STATE ELECTIONS. INFLUENCE OF KU KLUX KLAN. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, November 7. The Republican majority in the Senate lias been reduced from 22 to 6 by to-day’s elections. The incomplete returns indicate that the Republican majority in the House of Representatives will be practically unchanged. The elections were nlecessary to fill vacancies caused through death. The Presidential policy will apparently not be affected by the elections, ns' provincial politics dominate the position. For four vacant seats New York retained two Democrats and two Republicans. TVie Democrats have a lead for the election of ,a Governor and other State officials 1 in six States. The Senate will have 51 Republicans, 43 Democrats, and two Farmer and Labour members. The House of Representatives will have 225 Republicans, 205 Democrats, and three Independents in the next Congress. ;l'wo vacancies are not yet filled. A feature of the State elections throughout America was the sweeping victory of the Ku Klux Klan candidates at Ohio City. Taken with other developments, this seems ,to point to the entrance of the Klan into State and national politics next year to a degree which may embarrass many of the candidates of other parties. —Sydney Sun Cable. The Senator from Vermont is a Republican, g.ivirig the Republicans a majority of six in the Senate, there being 51 Republicans, 43 Democrats, and two Farmer-Labour members. _ The Republicans have a majority of 17 in the House of Representatives, there being 220 Republicans, 205 Democrats, one Socialist, one Independent, one Farmer-Labour, and two vacancies to be ’filled another by election. , . , The Ku.
