Hanihara (the Japanese Ambassador) has officially notified Mr Hughes owing to the fact that the former Japanese battleship A magi, which was being converted into an aircraft carrier under the terms of the Washington Treaty, was badly damaged by tbe earthquake, it has been decided to abandon the work on this vessel, and to substitute the former battleship Kaga, the displacement of which will he 26,000 tons upon completion.—A., and N.Z.
