NORTH ISLAND BAND CONTEST.
TWELVE ENTRIES TO DATE. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., November 7. Entries arc still coming forward for the North Island Band Contest, which will be held at Palmerston North in February next. The latest contestants are Feilding, Gisborne, T'imaru, Thames, and Palmerston North, making 12 to date. Some days ago a suggestion appeared in a number of papers that trouble was brewing owing to two contests being scheduled tor February, and that if no solution were found the Bandmasters’ Association, which is principally interested, would call on the bands to stand by their pledges. Ihe public and bandsmen naturally ask: Is the Bandmasters’ Association sincere when individual members are applying for the position of judge at one of these contests, and one of its number has already been selected to judge certain events in the South Island contest?
